Grants to Individuals

The Foundation has has discontinued its grants programme to individuals.

Our current grants programmes are as follows:

Bursaries and Scholarships

The Foundation offers a wide range of bursaries and scholarships at colleges and universities in London.  You will find a list of these, together with information about who to contact if you wish to apply, on the Bursaries and Scholarships page of our website.  Grants For Care Leavers

This is a new fund, specifically for care leavers (individuals who were previously looked after by their local authority).  Further information is available on the Grants for Care Leavers page of our website.

Higher Education Bursary Scheme

The Foundation's new Higher Education Bursary Scheme is delivered in partnership with inner London secondary schools.  Further details can be found on the Higher Education Bursary Scheme page of our website.

Guidelines for Individuals applying for a Bursary or a Scholarship

As a general rule, the same basic criteria and guidelines apply to all our grants programmes for individuals.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible to be considered for a grant from one of our grants programmes, students must be:

  • permanently resident in inner London and have lived there for at least one year, and
  • under twenty-five years of age, and
  • from a low income background, and
  • studying part-time or full-time on a course that is at least one year in length.

Inner London Boroughs

Only permanent residents of inner London are eligible to apply. “Inner London” means the boroughs of Camden, Greenwich, Hackney, Hammersmith & Fulham, Islington, Kensington & Chelsea, Lambeth, Lewisham, Newham, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Wandsworth, Westminster and the City of London.

Students who are living in London for the purposes of study (e.g if they moved to London from Birmingham or Liverpool when their course began) are not considered permanent residents.

What our grants are for

Grants can be made for education costs (books, equipment, travelling costs) maintenance (living costs) and/or payment of tuition fees.

Second qualifications at the same level and repeat studies

Grants are not made to students who are repeating a year of study or studying for qualifications at the same or a lower level than those they already possess, even if the subject/s or module/s being studied are different.  The Foundation would not, for example, give a grant to a student studying medicine as a second degree.

Enquiries

If, having read these guidelines, you are not sure whether or not you are eligible or have any questions, please telephone 020 7480 5884 for advice.
